Be A Guy

A Power I Wish I Used Wisely

In Did You See This? on May 2, 2018 at 9:09 am

Sometime this winter I get a bright idea, turn to my girlfriend and tell her “Why don’t you send Carol a message that she should invite us over for dinner? She does, Jon and Carol are out of town. We make a plan for when they return and all are looking forward to it. They come back, Jon goes to get a checkup at the doctors the week they return, ends up in the hospital and passes away shortly. Too bad, I was really fond of Jon.

So about a month ago my buddy Warren’s aide calls to inform me that he and Bea want Lisa and I to come over for dinner a week from Tuesday. I tell her it sounds great, it’s a date. And the Friday before our planned dinner I get another call as my guy is in the hospital with something associated with being 90. We all promise we’ll reschedule ASAP. And Warren passes this morning. I knew him for 50 years.

Both of theses gentlemen, that’s what they are, had begun to mentor me into the League of Oldtimers; while my age might qualify me for membership, my accomplishments certainly don’t put me in that pantheon.
