Revolutionary Thinking

In Fleshed Out Tweets on June 25, 2012 at 5:19 pm

I’m thinking today about revolution.
About how contrary to popular reasoning the American Revolution wasn’t caused so much by a desire to be rid of English Tyranny as it was that the many of the Founding Fathers were tired of not being treated as Englishmen with all the advantages and rights that that status inferred.

About this awful 99% and Tea Party schism we are going through which reminds me of the South in the run up to the Civil War. I’ve been arguing with apologists for the CSA for decades that States Rights had fuck-all to,do with the insurrection. What occurred was the 1% was attempting to protect their way of life- dependent on enslaving labor and consequently denying free citizens the opportunity to engage in free market economics. You cannot collectively or singularly bargain for a fair wage against a monopoly that denies a working man his due. But then your average butternut was a serf at heart. About the draft riots, deferments and how New Yorkers took out their frustrations on Negros. and this puts me in mind of the immigration debate. About the anti-gay rights fascists and “when they came for the Jews“. And we are embroiled again in this “States Rights” bullshit.

Why raise money for public education? the people for whom our kids will work are in private school.
Why raise money for public libraries? the people for whom our children will work have iPads.
Why raise money for exercise and sports? The people for whom our kids will work are golfing at the country club…..
Why have the government protect us from various diseases when there is much more money to be made protecting us from guys in caves?

I’m thinking about the fucking we given ourselves in the past 50 years- a guy used to be able to raise his family on one salary, mommy working then became an option and now we need two salaries.

I’m thinking about the fucking we’ve dealt our children- college debt to prepare for pumping cappuccino.

I’m thinking about the fucking we deal our planet- last month I took a multistage road trip and there was not one bug smashed on my windshield.
